Welcome to the Summer Term

Tuesday 21st April 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome to the Summer Term! It is lovely to see the sunshine and blue sky to help us to cope with lockdown. We hope you have managed to have time off to relax with your family. The Bankhead Primary School building has now closed until further notice. The children of key workers and vulnerable children have now transferred to Blairdardie Primary School where staff members from Bankhead Primary School are working.

Maureen McKenna, our Executive Director of Education, reminds us:

‘That home learning is learning activity in the widest sense, and includes every day activities like exercise – just going for a walk; food preparation and cooking; exploring and hobbies; reading and research - as well as activity in curricular areas and which will progress knowledge and understanding in those areas.’

This week we have uploaded new sets of work for your child/children and encourage you to include breaks and time to play, be active and relax. Prioritise your family’s health and wellbeing during these challenging times. I am sure all the routines you have already established are great.

If you prefer to have paper copies of the home learning packs, please respond to the text which will be sent to you today with your name, your child(ren)’s name(s) and their class(es). Thank you.

We are also continuing to learn more about how we can engage with your child through GLOW, Scotland’s digital environment/online platform for learning, and we will provide you with more information as soon as possible.  In the meantime, we will continue to keep in touch through text messaging, the Xpressions app and calling you and your child.

We are continually updating our school website’s Learning Resources, Info & Links page with useful links and websites to help support you and your family. BBC Bitesize is a useful resource for you and your child’s learning. Rangers Charity Foundation, who we work with, has also sent us links to Weekly Activity Worksheets as well as a weekly practical challenge activity to help keep kids active at home. Parent Club has many useful tips and information regarding home learning and talking to your children about coronavirus.

The Parent Council would also like you to complete a quick survey from Connect about how parents are feeling right now:

Connect's Parent/Carer Survey: How Are You Doing?

Your voices are heard; we're running a short survey which asks how you are doing and asks about your current experiences and needs.

Connect is keen to understand how parents/carers in Scotland are managing while schools and nurseries are closed because of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak. We'd like to find out about how you're managing, what you might be struggling with, how you're feeling about your child's learning, what types of communication (if any) you are having with your child’s teacher(s), school or/and local authority and how we (and others) can best help.

If you have more than one child, please complete a separate survey for each child using the survey link You can also help us by sharing this link with other parents and encourage them to respond, to make sure we hear from as many parents as possible.  This survey will close Thurs 30 April 2020.

We hope you and all your family remain safe, well and happy.

Kind regards,

All staff at Bankhead Primary School
