Letter to Parents - Plans for return to school, Uniform Exchange, Newsletters, AGM

03 June 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

Maureen McKenna, the Director of Education for Glasgow City Council, has written a letter to all parents about GCC current plans for education as we move out of lockdown. In Bankhead Primary School, we are making plans for children to return to a form of ‘blended learning’ in August and by the end of June we will provide you with our plan. If there are any further developments through the summer holidays we will be in touch through Groupcall, Bankhead Primary School Website and Twitter.

The Parent Council AGM took place on Monday 1st June 2020. To review the minutes (when they become available) & the AGM presentation, please visit the Your Parent Council website.

The Parent Council have worked hard to communicate useful links from Education Scotland, Glasgow City Council, National Parent Forum Scotland and Connect as much as possible to keep you up to date with information. They encourage you to sign up for Education Scotland's Parent Newsletter, as the activities could provide a routine for a couple of hours each day through the holidays.

The Parent Council have also organised a range of curriculum learning opportunities for you to use with your child on their website and again this might be helpful during the summer holidays.

Uniform Exchange

The Parent Council would like to organise a way for families to exchange uniforms at no cost. If this is something you would like to participate in then please donate clean uniforms in bags, outside the main entrance at Caldwell Avenue between now and Friday 12th June during school opening hours.

On Wednesday 17th June 2020, parents are welcome to come to school and choose from these donated items to help save money.

Timetable:

1pm-1.30pm - P1 & P6

1.30pm-2pm - P2 &P4

2pm-2.30pm - P3 & P5

The school uniforms will be displayed in the P1-P3 playground/shed depending on the weather.  The Parent Council are really keen that recycling of school uniforms becomes part of our school calendar each year which will be very helpful for families.

Scotland Connect

Scotland Connect would like to extend an invitation to their FREE online information session for parents:

Learning at home – how is that going for you?

To be held on Thursday 11 June 2020

Places are free, registration is essential at

https://bit.ly/ConnectLearningathome

Choose from afternoon or evening session

We’d like to hear from parents about their experience of supporting their child's learning at home during lockdown. It has been a challenging time! We are delighted to announce our speaker is Dr Janet Goodall, a common sense and empathetic educator, who will offer you reassurance and much more!

After you register, we will send you a link to join the session. If you have any queries, please contact training@connect.scot

Scotland Connect is also conducting a survey and have sent the following message for parents/carers:

Parents/carers! We need you!
You made your voices heard in our first ‘How are You Doing?’  lockdown survey and now we are launching our second lock down survey.

https://bit.ly/ConnectNextStepsSurvey

We want to understand what you're thinking about schools/nurseries re-opening part time in August and how you are managing at the moment.

What are the challenges you face? We can then share your views and concerns with Scottish Government, local authorities and schools.

What you told us in our first survey has informed everything we've been doing, from making sure your voices are heard at every level and as we put together information and advice.

Please take part in this survey too so we can continue to speak up for parents.

The report of our first survey can be found here: https://connect.scot/news/parents-carers-make-their-voices-heard-connects-survey-report-and-asks
